Top 5 Jazz Clubs in Singapore

Singapore’s music scene has emerged as Asia’s most exciting, eclectic and irreverent and you can find almost every type of music. One of the mainstays is jazz and to confirm jazz’s place at the top table of Singaporean music, the Singapore Jazz Festival at the Marina Bay Sands. This year’s event attracted record crowds and international music stars including Grammy-award winner Joss Stone and the Buena Vista Social Club. If you’re looking for good jazz, here’s our list of the top five jazz clubs in Singapore.

Blu Jaz Café

Blu Jaz Café

After moving to indie-chic heritage area Kampong Glam in 2006, the Blu Jaz Café’s Wednesday night jam sessions and live sessions on Fridays and Saturdays have become a ‘must see’ for Singapore’s jazz fans.

Eats come in the form comfort food, Middle Eastern delights and local delicacies as well as a great mix of bottled and draft beers, cocktails, wine and classic spirits. You’ll also find Latin, funk and soul groups entertaining guests inside and outside including the garden which is a super-cool kaleidoscope of colour and cool vibes.

In daylight hours the lounge bar serves afternoon tea and a choice of small plates but at night it comes into its own.

Perfect for any rendezvous from a first date to a business meeting, Singapore’s best live jazz performers play sultry sounds and guests can enjoy a glass of bubbles, a great choice of wines and beers as well as a superb cocktail list while gazing at each other or Singapore’s sensational skyline.

Past stars include Jeremy Monteiro, Albare, Alex Sipiagin, Richard Jackson, Ezra Brown and The Steve Mcqueens and while they don’t serve food and the drinks list is rather limited, that shouldn’t deter you from the people-pleasing pop-jazz as well as DJs and live sax and percussion from some of the top session musicians in one of the best jazz clubs in Singapore.

B28

B28

If you’re looking for one of the best whiskey menus in Singapore (bring serious money for the best drams) as well as performances by some of Singapore’s best live jazz musicians then B28 in the Club hotel on Ann Siang Road is the place for you. It gets busy on the weekends so come early to grab your table!

Small plates are served including seared Wagyu beef with roasted parsnip and a soy glaze, Angus beef sliders and pan-fried truffle and brie brioche bun and the drinks menu, although whiskey-heavy also caters for beer, wine and cocktail drinkers and despite a S$15 door charge on Friday and Saturday, B28 is one of the best jazz clubs in Singapore.

Bob’s Bar

Bob’s Bar

Bob’s Bar takes you back to 1960s Havana where old-world charm mixes effortlessly with contemporary cool. Inside the Capella on Sentosa Island, one of Singapore’s most beautiful hotels, it’s a decent drive out to the island but when you sit down and take a sip of your drink, you’ll know why you made the trip.

Live Latin jazz fills the air and coupled with sensational views of Palawan Beach and out into the South China Sea and an exploration of ‘the rich flavours, colours, and spirits of the West Indies and Havana’s golden era’, it makes for a very, very good night out. Friday night is Havana Night with BBQ on the terrace a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD.
