Calling all rugby fans! The Super Rugby season kicked off with two incredible games in March. On the 12th the HITO-Com Sunwolves from Singapore and Japan were narrowly defeated 31-32 by South African giants the Toyota Cheetahs and on the 26th, the Sunwolves were in action again, and again they suffered a narrow loss going down 27-30 to the Vodacom Bulls, also from South Africa.
The next big game at the National Stadium is on Saturday 14th May when the Sunwolves take on Cape Town’s Stormers. At the end of March the Stormers narrowly beat the Jaguares from Argentina in Buenos Aires so it’s shaping up to be a big game…!
The Sunwolves is a new franchise that will be co-based in Singapore and they will play three of their eight home games at Singapore’s National Stadium. The name, say the Straits Times, ‘is the product of an initiative that saw the Japan Super Rugby Association (JRSA) engage fans from all over the world to help come up with an identity for its new team’ and it is a hybrid of the blazing icon of ‘the Land of the Rising Sun’ and a wolf, an animal that traditionally hunts in packs and protects each other.
