Postcard: Singapore for explorers

Singapore is a hub of excitement and new places to discover, whether strolling the streets of Chinatown and Haji Lane, or hopping over to one of Singapore’s 63 islands. We’re all explorers at heart. So here are a few of our favorite places to explore in the Garden City…

Urban explorers: the shophouses on Haji Lane

Exploring the authentic alleys of Singapore is an absolute must when in the Lion City. Weave in and out of the shophouses on Haji Lane and be spoilt for choice when it comes to clothes, jewelry and Singaporean treasures. For the fashionistas out there, pay a visit to Know It Nothing; a two-storey, industrial-style store with a seriously cool urban vibe, selling some of the hottest labels around (Nike, New Balance and COLAB, to name a few). Its stylish architecture alone makes the trip worthwhile. Many of Haji Lane’s buildings are decorated with vibrant paintings and graffiti, which make for seriously cool photos. After all that exploring, relax in one of the boho cafés with a beverage in hand, and soak up the atmosphere.

You can stay in a hotel near Haji Lane for just $40 a person* and receive a range of other amazing discounts when you book a flight with Singapore Airlines and add a Singapore Stopover Holiday. Find out how…

Nature explorers: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Just 7.5 miles from the city, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve makes for an excellent leafy walk in the wilderness. An abundance of trees, plants and animal life thrive in the reserve, including monkeys, lizards, butterflies, millipedes, flying squirrels and plenty of other exotic creatures. There are various routes around the park, which cater to all abilities, and all are well sign-posted, so you won’t get lost. Before you start your adventure, head over to the visitor center, where you can learn about the biodiversity and creatures that can be found in the park.

Did you know that Singapore is one of the world’s greenest cities?

Island explorers: Lazarus Island

You may not have known that Singapore is actually home to 63 islands. The biggest and most popular being Sentosa, which makes a seriously fun day out (especially with the family). If you are looking to explore somewhere a little more relaxed and off the beaten-track, check out Lazarus Island. It hosts a series of stunning, white-sand beaches and turquoise waters, complemented with a laid-back atmosphere. We recommend rolling a mat under a tree, unwinding and sharing a picnic with friends. Note, there are no stores on the island, so make sure you take everything you need along with you (we think this adds to Lazarus’ charm.)

How to get there Hop on a boat to St John’s Island from Marina South Pier ($18 a person for a round trip), then take the link bridge from the St John’s jetty to Lazarus (20 minutes away). Technically, you’re visiting two awesome islands for the price of one…

Other must-explore islands include Pulau Ubin and Sisters’ Islands.

Food explorers

From flavor-rich chicken rice to tantalisingly juicy noodle dishes, Singapore is a foodie’s haven. Head over to the Maxwell Food Center, where you can choose from literally hundreds of delicious dishes (don’t blame us if you’re overwhelmed with mouth-watering options).
