Pee Wee’s at the Point is a fine dining establishment that sits harmoniously amongst the East Point Nature Reserve’s tropical palms and natural environment and in their own words, the menu ‘aims to reflect the produce, climate and multiculturalism of the Northern Territory.’
Not only does it aim to reflect the produce, climate and multiculturalism, it succeeds, and how.
If you’re lucky enough to get a seat on the outdoor veranda, you’ll get breath-taking views of the ocean and a cool, tropical breeze as you drink and chat, and that’s before the food arrives. A quirky DIY garlic bread entrée is the warm-up act before you read a menu full of fresh, local ingredients and, not surprisingly for a restaurant on the ocean’s doorstep, the best seafood for miles.
You can take a gourmet tour of a selection of the chef’s entrées or you can tuck into coconut-crusted crocodile tail, kangaroo carpaccio or an excellent version of scallops Rockefeller and then for your main course, fish, meat and shellfish rule including a superb Riverina grain-fed eye fillet of beef, wild caught saltwater barramundi and coconut, kaffir lime and lemongrass-marinated tiger prawns, literally out of the sea and onto your plate.
As you’d expect from one of Darwin’s best restaurants, the service is impeccable, your water is kept cold in an ice bucket and the mid-course, palate-cleansing sorbets are worth the visit alone.
Again unsurprisingly, the best-selling dessert is Pee Wee’s Chocolate Slut and includes – take a deep breath – Belgian dark chocolate marquise, aerated chocolate, chocolate meringue, chocolate macaroon, raspberry gel, white chocolate & raspberry ice cream….. and it’s perhaps one of the most indulgent desserts you’ll ever have the fortune to eat.
The wine list covers Australia, Europe and the New World and is well-represented by the classics as well as some intriguing little numbers you may not have come across before.
Pee Wee’s at the Point is one of Darwin’s outstanding restaurants. Every plate is intricate and detailed and it’s a place that will live long in the memory.
