Say the name Koh Grill & Sushi Bar to any Singaporean who knows their food (and that’s most of the population) and they will say this to you in return – Shiok Maki.
To non-Singaporeans, ‘shiok’ is a slang word that’s used to convey a feeling or sheer and unadulterated pleasure and their Shiok Maki has been described by one of Singapore’s most popular food writers as ‘hands down one of the best things I’ve ever had in life.’
It’s a Singaporean-inspired maki made of avocado, unagi and aburi salmon and the same food writer said ‘drenched with a supremely addictive creamy sauce that is seemingly a legit mixture of mayo and mentai then topped with a copious amount of tobiko.’ There’s another version that swaps out the salmon for fried prawn and it’s equally as delicious!
It’s not only the Shiok Maki that makes the headlines. The queues extend round the corner at peak times and a wait of an hour isn’t unheard of for their great selection of sushi, sashimi, grills, hot dishes, soups and noodles, not forgetting the excellent bento boxes.
Sitting pretty on the world-famous Orchard Road in the food court of the Wisma Atria Shopping Centre and affectionately known as Food Republic of Wisma Atria, Koh Grill & Sushi Bar serve honest, authentic and delicious Japanese food at reasonable prices – could you ask for anything more?
