Kaiho Sushi in Cuppage Plaza has been described as a ‘Japanese food lover’s paradise’, ‘my go to place for Japanese food’ and simply ‘must try’ and larger-than-life Nogawa-trained chef Bernard Tang has created a real cult following at Kaiho Sushi. It may look a little tired from the outside but step inside for a genuine Japanese treat
The S$100, seven-course omakase menu is excellent, varied, fresh and seasonal and the nine lunch sets(S$30) are all delicious, especially the Chirashi set which consists of beautifully sliced sweet mackerel, salmon, tuna, scallop, squid, prawn, octopus, swordfish and crab, dependent what’s in season.
The menu is full of the classics including sushi and sashimi, tempura, soups, Japanese omelettes, as much green tea as you can drink and the perfect end to a near-perfect meal – chestnut ice-cream with candied chestnut pieces!
Yo can sit at the counter and watch the sushi masters in action and the prices represent excellent value for money but the restaurant sits around 50 people so we’d suggest making a booking!
You could be forgiven for barely noticing Kaiho Sushi as you walk through Cuppage Plaza but if you’re looking for excellent, authentic Japanese food favoured by a Japanese clientele, go and see Bernard!
