One of the highlights of the city’s events calendar, the Canberra Balloon Spectacular celebrates its 30th anniversary by filling the skies and creating an eye-popping backdrop to Canberra’s national monuments with incredible hot-air balloons of all shapes and sizes.
You better get their early though! Pilots start to inflate their balloons from just after 6.00am with launches set for between 6.30am and 7.00am but of course all flights are completely weather-dependent. If it’s windy or rainy you may be out of luck on the balloon front but the Belconnen Lions Club put on an excellent breakfast for the early risers which is available to buy on the lawns. Every cloud…
The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is one of the best and longest-running balloon events in the world and you’ll find traditional balloons as well as balloons of all shapes and sizes including in past years Darth Vader, Angry Birds, Yoda, an Aussie Rules football, Van Gogh’s head and a windmill!
You can also book 45-60 minute passenger flights which start at $220 for children and $310 for adults but whatever you decide to do including sit and watch from sun-up, buy breakfast or bring your own, this is a fantastic community event with live music and the famous feel-good Canberra vibe!
