The Blu Jaz Café started life as a small burger joint in Little India before relocating to indie-chic heritage area Kampong Glam in 2006 in a restored shophouse. From there the Blu Jaz has cemented its place as one of the Garden City’s most popular jazz bars.
Every Wednesday there’s a jam session night and on Fridays and Saturdays from around 9.30pm a host of top jazz musicians from Singapore and further afield as well as Latin, funk and soul groups will entertain guests inside and outside including in the garden which is a super-cool kaleidoscope of colour and cool, jazzy vibes.
The food is an affordable and tasty mix of classic bar snacks such as wings, burgers and hot dogs, comfort food like fish and chips and pasta and local Asian delicacies but for many, the star of the show is the delicious Middle Eastern favourites including shawarma, falafel, pita bread dips and kebabs.
The drinks menu comprises the usual suspects of bottled and draft beers, cocktails, a decent wine list and classic spirits and after you’ve eaten and while you’re still drinking, head upstairs for some live DJ sets.
It’s busy at the weekends so rock up early if you can but you’ll find a great mix of locals, ex-pats and tourists of all ages enjoying great music and great food in one of Singapore’s coolest jazz bars.
