Singapore in January

Enjoy balmy weather and winter sun in January by stopping by Singapore, where the average temperature at this time of year is 26°C…

Shorter lines and fewer crowds also make this an ideal time to visit. After enjoying some epic New Year’s parties, get your fill of culture with a packed January itinerary in the city. And of course, you can always count on the incredible shopping, street food, waterparks and glorious gardens year-round.

1 – Singapore Art Week

The annual Singapore Art Week is a massive 12-day arts festival with walking tours, art fairs, in-depth discussions and exhibitions, as well as after-parties, movie screenings and art workshops. Come ready to explore and discover.

2 – Chinese New Year

Make your way to the River Hongbao for a buzzy celebration of giant lanterns, Chinese food and amusement rides on Marina Bay’s Floating Platform. This is one of the biggest holidays in Singapore, so expect a big build-up of lion dances, celebrating in red and eating festive snacks (try the pineapple tarts, coconut cookies and spicy dried prawn rolls). Starts Jan 26.

3 – Safari Zoo Run 2018

Who doesn’t need some exercise after the decadence of the holidays? And why not do it in an unforgettable environment – by running beside exotic animals at the zoo? The January 27th event raises awareness for the conservation of Singapore’s native wildlife. Run solo or form a team and enter the 10k, 5.5k or 2.2k race.

4 – Pongal (Harvest) Light-Up

In this South Indian festival, farmers give thanks for a rich harvest. Head to Campbell Lane in Little India to explore stalls with unique souvenirs and performances, or Kinta Road for a cooking competition, ornate street lights and cultural dances. Jan 13–16.

5 – St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore

Discover new music acts at this indie-music festival, known as Laneway, held in the Meadow at Gardens by the Bay. The one-day special event will feature hip-hop artists, singer-songwriters, rock bands and more across four stages. Jan 27.

6 – Art Stage Singapore

See one of the biggest exhibitions of contemporary art at the Marina Bay Sands hotel on Jan 27–28. This year’s event focusses on Southeast Asian art.
