Singapore Hotels

Housed in a 1920s, heritage-listed former school in Little India with an art-deco mosaic adorning the façade, Wanderlust, from Singapore’s hottest hospitality hotelier Loh Lik Peng is a haven of creativity. Their website says ‘stepping inside is like tumbling into a vivid dreamscape. Surreal themes from Pantone colours to pop art, origami and childhood fantasies inspired the 29 rooms and no two are the same’. In fact the owner gave four design agencies one floor each to work their magic and one look inside will tell you that the magic works.

Each room stands alone. On the second floor, Phunk Studio created what has been described as a ‘neon riot’ of vivid colour on every surface; the third floor sees all-white rooms created by DP Architects with boldly-angled ceilings and hand-drawn lavish decorations on the walls and in the fourth floor duplex apartments you’ll find live art installations including a giant typewriter that doubles up as a sofa and space rocket filled with stuffed aliens!

The amenities are as funky as the rooms with 24-h concierge, free wi-fi throughout the hotel, a sun deck with outdoor jacuzzi, flat screen TVs, iPod docking stations, complimentary non-alcoholic drinks in the minibar, a Nespresso coffee machine and toiletries by Kiehl.

Food & Drink

The vibe at Wanderlust is somewhat communal so there’s no room service and the plates of unpretentious comfort food at the hotel’s French bistro Cocotte are designed to share with friends, including chef Anthony Yeoh’s roast pork collar with Dijon mustard, made to share for five.

The bar, ‘reminiscent of a French tabac’ is well-stocked, relaxed and quirky so look out for the lamps made from old Campari bottles as you sip a beer and wonder at the Wanderlust.
