The humble bao steamed bun is being treated to a makeover and Singapore’s chief architects are the Bao Makers.

A concept store located in the Jalan Besar heritage district with an almost Japanese minimalist look and feel and an ultra-chilled vibe, the Bao Makers serve beautifully simple bao buns with a selection of delectable fillings including Salted Egg Shrimp, Pork Belly, Chilli Crab, Nanban Chicken and Bulgogi (marinated grilled pork literally translated as ‘fire meat’ in Korean!)

As well as great bao buns and a selection of main dishes that cover Italy, Japan and great British pub food, the restaurant is also sold as a bakery serving speciality coffees and cupcake sundaes such as the classic Red velvet, Banana Walnut, Lemon Meringue and Chocolate Cake and if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’re in for a real treat.
