Singapore Bars & Clubs

Mr Punch Public House

26 Seah Street
Singapore 188382

With a brand new sharing menu, Mr Punch is a real departure from the glitz and glamour of Singapore’s ‘it crowd’ bars. It’s located on the roof of the Mint Museum of Toys and takes its name from the protagonist of the beloved, end-of-the-pier children’s puppet show.

Decidedly retro, the bar is full of kitsch enamel vintage Americana and is one of the quirkiest places in Singapore to chill out and grab a few beers with friends. The views of the cityscape are slightly blocked by the Raffles Hotel and the towering Swissôtel but that shouldn’t detract from what is a great bar that doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t.

There’s no pretentiousness here, nor will you find S$3,000 bottles of Champagne. You’ll find cold beers and cocktails and in their own words ‘a nostalgic celebration of good food, better company and plentiful drinking’. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

The Food

The sharing menu is short but interesting and very reasonably priced with a selection of starters including Hokkaido scallops with black garlic, fresh razor clams in white wine and duck breast with blackberry juice. The mains include an Australian striploin steak, chicken, pork, lamb and prawn dishes and for the finale, a passion fruit crème brulée, a banana chocolate cake and a deconstructed tiramisu will ensure you end the meal with a huge smile on your face!

You will also find good old pub classics like fish and chips, ribs, freshly baked pizzas and salads and the food is excellent and the prices are perfectly acceptable.

The Drinks

The drinks menu is also short but sweet. Draft and bottled beers, cider and house wine are all around the S$11-15 mark, the few cocktails on the menu are around S$30 and you can also get teas, coffees, soft drinks and juices.

You’re not going to find Singapore’s beautiful people at Mr Punch but what you will find is a friendly, local watering hole where you can eat, drink and laugh with enough money left for a cab home!
