Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum

1 Chinese Garden Road
Singapore 619795

In stunning surroundings, you can see one of the very best collections of the world’s rarest turtles and tortoises. In the grounds of the beautiful Chinese Gardens, the Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum is an intimate private zoo set up by father and daughter Danny and Connie Tan who have collected these incredible creatures for over 40 years.

If you’re looking for a slick, corporate museum with dozens of food outlets and late-night fireworks you’ll be disappointed but what you will find is a half-century labour of love and a fantastic place to get up-close-and-personal with these fascinating reptilian wonders.

As well as holding an official Guinness World Record for the largest collection of tortoises and turtles, you’ll find some truly wonderful creatures including the world’s flattest tortoise known as the Pancake Tortoise, some of the rarest in the world including the Golden Temple Turtle, the scary-sounding Alligator Snapping Turtle from the USA as well as the Radiated Tortoise from Madagascar, widely considered to be the world’s most beautiful.

For S$2 you can pick up a bag of greens and feed the creatures that roam free around the grounds and it’s a great experience for the kids to get so close and in such a modern, forward-thinking city with huge glass and steel structures permeating every corner, it’s vital that places like the Live Turtle & Tortoise Museum can still thrive.
