The flagship restaurant of the award-winning Hanuman chain, chef Jimmy Shu has created a stunning Thai, Indian and Nonya fusion menu that perfectly captures Darwin’s multiculturalism using immaculately fresh, seasonal ingredients, tastes and textures for a fully immersive fine dining experience.
The antique décor juxtapositions beautifully with chef Shu’s continual search for innovative and authentic flavour combinations and his skill at pairing wine with food is critically acclaimed.
The menu is very busy and is a collection of small plates, tandoori classics, seafood, meat and fish and the standout dishes include Trumpet mushrooms topped with finely minced pork in a warm coconut creamed sauce and the house’s signature dish – Hanuman oysters with vivid tastes of lemongrass, sweet basil, ginger chili and fresh coriander.
Indian influences are obvious throughout the menu and the dishes offer a cacophony of flavours and smells that will have you thinking about the food long after the final mouthful has been eaten.
The drinks list is as busy as the food menu and is excellently-well represented with a great choice of premium Australian, New and Old world wines, cocktails and mocktails and the experience is made even better by the stunning Asian-influenced artwork permeating the dining room.
Hanuman is an excellent restaurant and is a ‘must stop’ on any gastronomic tour of the Northern Territory. Look out for a Hanuman in Alice Springs too!
