At Mercedes, it’s all-out war between the team’s drivers, reigning three-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, who are fighting tooth-and-nail for every last point and very few separating them at the top.
So far, the 2016 season has been marked by the pair’s flashpoints, with Hamilton crashing into Rosberg in Spain, taking them both out of the race; more contact in Canada, and again on the last lap in Austria.
Behind the Silver Arrows, Ferrari leads the chase – with Red Bull on the rise care of its young gun drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen. Naturally, both of them are hungry for results, with Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit expected to be the squad’s next real chance at victory – and both have their eyes set on the prize, Verstappen the last to win, his first in Spain making him the youngest-ever winner in the sport at just 18-years-old.
Indian-owned British-run squad Force India is also a resurgent force, gunning for fourth in the constructors’ championship; driver Sergio Pérez making the most of a competitive car that helped him to score podiums in Monaco and Baku.
As always, Formula 1 provides a thrilling competition that will only intensify as the grid looks towards its much-loved night race, held under lights in one of the world’s great cities, Singapore.
