If you’ve ever wanted to swim with crocodiles and see the world’s biggest collection of Australian reptiles, Crocosaurus Cove is the place to be! This is Darwin’s ultimate urban wildlife experience and gets you up close and personal with huge saltwater crocodiles!
You won’t just find big crocs here, you’ll find over 70 species of reptiles and the kids (and you!) can meet them, learn all about them and feed them! In the Turtle Sanctuary, you can see, amongst many others, Red & Yellow Face Turtles, Snapping Turtles and the fantastically cute Pig Nosed Turtles with flippers instead of claws and skin on their shells – evolution before your very eyes!
In the 200,000-litre aquarium you can see freshwater sawfish, the whipray (the freshwater cousin of the stingray) and Australia’s famous barramundi as well as the famous archer fish that preys on land-based insects by shooting them with water! It really is a sight to see!
The big draw at Crocosaurus Cove is the Big Croc Feed at an additional cost of A$55. When we say ‘big croc’, we really do mean it. These critters, known as ‘salties’, can top 6m in length and feeding time is something to behold! You can even see them take huge chunks out of ice blocks and these guys are some of the world’s biggest. You can also fish for crocs – baby crocs – by dangling a fishing rod over the edge with their food and watch as they almost literally jump out the water to get what you’re offering them.
If you’re feeling exceptionally brave, try the Cage of Death. It’s Australia’s only crocodile dive and in their own words ‘Every dive includes 15 minutes in the enclosure with one of these massive reptiles. Regular feeding by our crocodile handlers when people are inside the cage encourages more movement from the crocodiles and ensures an up close and personal, face to face encounter that must be seen to be believed!’ The price of the Cage of Death experience is A$165 per person or A$250 for two so it’s not cheap but it’s unlikely you’ll ever do anything like this again!
With the obligatory café and shop, Crocosaurus Cove is a great day out for the entire family.
