Moosehead isn’t just your average bar. (It’s called Moosehead, for a start.) It’s also located in a pre-war shophouse a few minutes away from Telok Ayer MRT Station, and decorated with lots of repurposed vintage objects and curiosities, plus graffiti murals. A hand-painted moose head keeps an eye on proceedings, so behave yourself. Come here hungry and canter through the bar menu of global street food – pork scratchings with beef tartare, or beetroot, pomegranate and ricotta, perhaps – matched with cocktails, beer or wine. There are even some tempting home-made iced teas: the perfect antidote to Singapore’s sultry weather. This sociable little drinking den has a community focus, organising DJ nights, talks, arty evenings and more. Owner Daniel Ballis has hopped from Australia to Phuket, Bintan, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, London and Singapore, hence the eclectic, global feel.
