Good news, gourmands: top chef Marco Pierre White has just unveiled his new restaurant in the Lion City. The English House earns its name with a menu that champions classic best-of-British comfort food: fish and chips starring toothsome English turbot, beef-fat chips and peas cooked in marrow, and potted duck, for example. The styling deserves mention: an artful mix of antiques, pub signs, curios and black-and-white Terry O’Neill snaps of celebrity icons (Bowie and co), taken from the chef’s personal collection.

The food thrills don’t stop there. Other new openings this month include Folklore, which aces traditional Peranakan food inspired by the chef’s grandmother, grandfather and friends, and Mediterranean-inspired Sideways Restaurant, which pairs just-baked sourdough with creative tapas, and makes everything from scratch onsite.

Finally, toast the tastiest city in the world at hot new bar, Nineteen80, which is proudly inspired by all things-Eighties. Expect big, bold colours and pops of neon, vintage video games and retro-tastic libations.
