World’s first Michelin-starred street food trader is back in London, and this time with a rising star for company!
20 February 2019 – Singaporean street food legends, Hawker Chan, and A Noodle Story, will be bringing their signature dishes to London for a unique ‘taste of Singapore’ pop-up at KERB’s King’s Cross street food market this March in collaboration with Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board and Changi Airport Group.
The world’s first Michelin-starred street food trader, Hawker Chan, will return to London following his sold out 2018 pop-up, where 1,200 Michelin-starred lunches were served over three days, with another iconic dish – his char siew pork and rice. This year, he will also be joined by the rising stars and next generation of Singapore street food talent, A Noodle Story, who will be serving their legendary Bib Gourmand awarded Singapore-style ramen for the first time in the UK.
For three days only, Londoners will be able to enjoy a Singaporean street food lunch, paying just £6 per dish.
Location: KERB King’s Cross in Granary Square, London N1C 4AA
Dates: Wednesday 6 to Friday 8 March, 2019
Time: 11.30am-2.30pm each day
As Singapore commemorates its bicentennial year, this pop-up offers London a glimpse of Singapore’s heritage and taste of its world-renowned street food culture. Hawker Chan and A Noodle Story will each prepare 300 portions every day while their London stalls are open. Both will trade until the market closes or their dish is sold out.
Hawker Chan shot to stardom when he became the first Michelin-starred Hawker in 2016. He has been cooking for locals for the last ten years from his hawker stall in Singapore, where a sizeable queue regularly forms even before opening time. Hawker Chan came to London for the first time ever last year, delighting the UK with his Michelin-starred soya sauce chicken and rice that had customers queuing for hours every day.
A Noodle Story is run by ‘hawkerpreneur’ co-founders Gwern Khoo and Ben Tham who have been serving their innovative Singapore-style ramen since 2013. Their revolutionary twist on traditional Japanese ramen was given Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award in 2016. Gwern and Ben’s entrepreneurial approach to traditional hawker culture has cemented their status as the next generation of Singaporean street food stars.
Gwern Khoo said “We are so excited to serve our Singapore-style ramen in the UK for the first time ever. It will also be an honour to serve alongside Hawker Chan who is an icon in Singaporean street food. Thank you to Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board and Changi Airport Group for helping us share our passion with the UK – we hope Londoners enjoy eating our food as much as we enjoy cooking it!”
Hawker Chan said “I was overwhelmed with the response to my first pop-up in London and am delighted to be returning to the UK with a new dish this year. Street food will always be a staple of Singaporean culture and innovative hawkers like A Noodle Story are important for inspiring future generations and dishes to come! I look forward to welcoming all the UK foodies who come to experience a taste of Singapore at our pop-up in March.”
Customers who visit this pop-up will also be able to enter a competition run by Singapore Airlines, Singapore Tourism Board and Changi Airport Group. By posting a picture or video at the pop-up market and sharing their experience on social media using hashtags #KERBSingapore and #SingaporeAir, entrants will stand the chance to win a three-night Singapore Stopover Holiday, including flights, accommodation and entry to selected attractions.*
