Introducing Jewel Changi Airport: Changi’s new gem

Not content with its multiple ‘World’s Best Airport’ awards, Changi has outdone itself again…

Watch this mini movie to get a preview of its dazzling new Jewel concept, which is scheduled to open in 2019. This architecturally innovative, world-class lifestyle destination will wow with unique attractions, thrilling dining, entertainment and shopping experiences, and top-notch accommodation and aviation facilities for both locals and travellers.

Indoor Gardens

Changi Airport has always had a thing for Mother Nature, and so too does Jewel, which will host Singapore’s largest air-conditioned indoor garden. Soak up the sights, sounds and scents from the heart of the airport and enjoy the fusion of natural beauty and urban energy – one of Singapore’s signature combos.

The idea for Jewel was born from a need to expand the capacity of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, as well as its open-air carpark. The bold structure and iconic glass-and-steel façade comes courtesy of world-renowned architect, Moshe Safdie, responsible for Singapore’s triple-towered Marina Bay Sands hotel complex and the Habitat 67 housing complex, which debuted at the World’s Fair in Montreal back in 1967.

Travelators and MRT

Jewel will boast an easy-to-access position, seamlessly linked to Terminal 1’s arrival hall and conveniently connected to Terminals 2 and 3 via air-conditioned pedestrian linkways, fitted with travelators to whoosh visitors comfortably to Jewel in minutes. The existing Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station will enable rail access to Jewel from the rest of the city; there will also be 2,500 car park spaces serving visitors to both Terminal 1 and Jewel.

Jewel hasn’t even opened yet, but already it has wowed experts in the architecture, travel aviation and hospitality industries. The project has garnered various accolades such as the 2016 International Architecture Award, the MAPIC Awards 2016: Best Futura Shopping Centre and the MIPIM Asia Awards 2016: Best Futura Project (Silver).
