‘This race is always a highlight of the season: a great city, which looks really spectacular under the lights with the tricky street circuit below – my favourite kind of track to drive.’
Lewis Hamilton, 3-time Formula 1® World Champion, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team
The Formula 1® Singapore Grand Prix turns 10 this year – and you can expect a spectacular party to mark its tenth edition. The world’s only full Formula 1® night race, which is also Asia’s only Formula 1® street circuit, has delivered high-octane thrills and spectacular entertainment since its 2008 debut.
It’s arguably one of the most exciting legs of the championship, thanks to the technical challenges drivers face and the electric atmosphere that accompanies after-dark races. Add in tropical weather, the city’s iconic architecture and world-class performers, and you’re left with one of the most incredible events in the racing calendar.

The race is famous for its off-track highlights, too. Music-lovers will feel their pulse quicken at the prospect of this year’s big-name line-up. Your bite-sized itinerary
15 SEPTEMBER, FRIDAY
On-track Formula 1® Practice. During the two sessions of Free Practice, the teams check out the track and evaluate how their cars behave in current set-up. Strategy for the race will be planned based on the information gained, such as the settings for the aerodynamics, how long each type of tyre will last (teams have to use two different types of Pirelli tyre during a race – one harder than the other) and when to make their pit-stops. The tyre compound choices for the Singapore race are: ultrasoft, supersoft and soft.
The Padang Stage (Zone 4): OneRepublic and Lianne La Havas
16 SEPTEMBER, SATURDAY
On-track Formula 1® Qualifying. Qualifying is where the drivers try to set the fastest single lap time possible to determine in which position they will start the race. After the first 18-minute session, the slowest six drivers will be eliminated; they will start at the back of the grid in the order of their best lap time. The second 15-minute session will see the remaining 16 drivers reduced to 10, who will then go on to a 10-minute final ‘shoot out’ to determine their starting positions and, of course, decide who will secure the all-important Pole Position – especially valuable at narrow street circuits like this one, where overtaking is harder than anywhere.
The Padang Stage (Zone 4): The Chainsmokers and Ariana Grande
Village Stage (Zone 1): Lianne La Havas and Duran Duran
Downtown (Zone 4): George The Poet
17 SEPTEMBER, SUNDAY
FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™. Race day! Feel the tension and anticipation in the city rise to a crescendo for the main event at 8pm.
The Padang Stage (Zone 4): Calvin Harris and Duran Duran
Village Stage (Zone 1): Seal
Esplanade Outdoor Theatre (Zone 4): George The Poet
