If you’re stopping over in Singapore, it’s possible to have a very full and varied itinerary in just 48 hours.
With the Singapore Stopover Holiday (SSH), we’ve taken care of your hotel and your bus transport with the SIA Hop On Bus. Now here’s our list of 10 things to pack into your two days here. Best of all? Enjoy free entrance to these sites with your Singapore Explorer Pass. So pack your bags, put on your walking shoes and hit the road – time is of the essence.
1 – Check into your hotel
Set down your bags and get settled at one of the Singapore Stopover Holiday (SSH) hotels. If you’ve flown from a cold climate, ditch the heavy coats and sweaters and change into something more suited to the tropical rainforest climate.
2 – Eat lunch from a street hawker cart
Since time is limited, head straight for the local street food to get a flavor of Singapore. Wander down the Chinatown Food Street and present your Singapore Stopover Holiday card to redeem a $5 food/drink voucher. For some of the best-loved street food, go to the Maxwell Road Hawker Centre, a partially open-air food court, and look for the most famous stall to eat Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice.
3 – Bird watch at the Jurong Bird Park
See Singapore’s tropical side at this bird park and its beautiful naturalistic aviary. Try to spot the 400 species of 5,000 birds in Asia’s largest bird paradise. Admission is free with your SSH card.
4 – Stop by the National Museum of Singapore
If you haven’t had time to study up on the history and culture of Singapore, get a whirlwind tour by visiting this museum that covers 700 years of Singapore’s history and has more than a thousand cultural artifacts. Free with SSH card.
5 – Grab a drink at Raffles
No trip is complete without a famous Singapore Sling in the Long Bar at Raffles Singapore. Legend has it that this was the spot where the signature gin cocktail was created by a bartender around 1900; stepping into the bar feels like traveling back to another time.
7 – Ride the Singapore Cable Cars
Get a real feel for the shape of the island and the city by taking to the skies and riding in the cable cars. Begin at Faber Peak Singapore, a hill with spectacular views on the Mount Faber Line. You’ll pass through a skyscraper, fly over the harbor and land on Sentosa Island.
8 – Explore the Gardens by the Bay
You know you’re in Singapore when you get lost among the gardens at this famous site along the bay. With indoor waterfalls, a flower dome, and cutting edge architecture, there’s plenty to see at this one-of-a-kind attraction.
9 – Wander the streets with a guided tour
Discover the country’s local charm and history on one of the Original Singapore Walks. You’ll get a feel for the variety of cultures as you tour Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Gelam, the home of Malay aristocracy now known as the Muslim Quarter. Itineraries change day to day, so check beforehand.
10 – Night safari at the Singapore Zoo
Get a glimpse of nature’s nocturnal creatures on a tram ride that lets you get super-close to the animals (you can also explore on foot). If you’re lucky, you’ll spot leopards, giraffes and zebras. The cool evening temperatures make this an ideal outdoor activity.
